Tynikki Crook Named Marshall Student Athlete Of The Week|
Jan. 12, 2010
Marshall women's basketball player Tynikki Crook is the Marshall Student Athlete of the Week ending Jan. 10.
Crook was selected Conference USA Player of the Week (ending Jan. 10). Crook averaged 14.3 PPG and 7.3 RPG, while also holding her opponent's top post player to below season averages. She held East Carolina's Jean Best to just one point and no rebounds, followed by only allowing C-USA Preseason Player of the Year Emma Cannon of UCF to seven points and two rebounds. Against the nation's third-best rebounder, Southern Miss' Pauline Love, Crook allowed one offensive board. In addition, she held both players below their season scoring averages. The junior began the week with a 16-point performance against rival ECU before posting 13 against the defending champion Knights.
She wrapped up the weekend with a double-double, with 14 points and 11 boards against the Golden Eagles. Crook shot 52.9 percent from the floor (18-34) and recorded seven blocks, improving her C-USA season-best total to 31. This is her first C-USA Player of the Week honor of the season and second of her career.
