HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - The Marshall University Department of Intercollegiate Athletics will host the 13th Annual Sweetheart Clinic on Sunday, February 21. No walk-up participants will be accepted.
Pre-registration, which will be accepted via e-mail only, will begin Monday, Jan. 25 and take place through Friday, Feb. 5, or until the clinic is full. To pre-register, please visit www.HerdZone.com and click the 2010 Sweetheart Clinic link at the top of the page. Registrants must provide their name, home address, emergency contact number, e-mail address, t-shirt size, and age.
This year's Sweetheart Clinic is sponsored by Marshall Athletics, Fabric Town Interiors, Pepsi, and Little Caesars Pizza. The program began in 1998 in recognition of National Girls and Women in Sports Day. Since its inception, more than 1,500 girls have participated and had the opportunity to learn developmental skills in nine women's sports.
Participants will be divided into age groups and will rotate through nine different stations learning developmental sports skills from Marshall coaches and student-athletes. In addition to developmental skill instruction, participants will receive a free t-shirt.
Check-in for participants will take place from 9:45 to 10:15 a.m. in The Marshall University Recreation Center. The Clinic will begin promptly at 10:15 a.m. Following the clinic, participants will enjoy a pizza party and a pep rally led by the Marshall University Cheerleaders. The party is sponsored by Little Caesars Pizza and Pepsi. Participants will then be invited to attend the Marshall women's basketball team's game versus Southern Methodist University at 2:00 p.m. in the Cam Henderson Center.
The clinic, including pizza party, pep rally and the women's basketball game, is free to participants. Parents and observers may purchase a ticket to the women's basketball game. Single-game tickets for women's basketball games are available for $5 for adults and $3 for children through the Marshall Athletic Ticket Office.
