Women's Basketball's Kendra King is the Marshall Student Athlete of the Week|
Feb. 2, 2010
Thundering Herd women's basketball player Kendra King has been selected Marshall Student Athlete of the Week ending Jan. 31.
King, who was selected Conference USA Women's Basketball Player of the Week, averaged a double-double in a pair of games for the Thundering Herd over the week, scoring an average of 26.5 points per game and 14.0 rebounds. Her 28 rebounds for the week were the most in C-USA over that span.
She reset her career-high in scoring in each Marshall game for the week, beginning with a 17-point performance on Thursday against Memphis. She also grabbed 12 boards en route to her first double-double in three seasons. She hit 7-of-13 shots while blocking a Tiger attempt.
In Saturday's game against UAB, King rose to the occasion, going off for 36 points on 13-of-21 shooting. It marked the first 30-point performance for a Marshall player since Modupe Ishola did so in the 2006-07 season. It was also one of just six 30-point performances thus far in C-USA this season. King also led all players with 16 rebounds.
Her effort on Saturday was pivotal in the Herd overcoming a 16-point second-half deficit to defeat the Blazers, 85-84, in double overtime. This marked the first Player of the Week honor for King
