Vision Campaign Update
A letter from Mike Hamrick
March 26, 2013
Dear Big Green Members,
This is an exciting time for Marshall Athletics and I want to take this opportunity to update you on the progress of our new facilities and share with you a very special announcement about an exceptional gift to the Vision Campaign.
As of today our $8 million Soccer Complex is beginning to take shape along 5th Avenue and is on schedule for our grand opening August 23. This facility will not only be the home for our Men’s and Women’s Soccer programs, but also the venue to host youth soccer tournaments for the Tri-State area and all of West Virginia. And you will be proud to know your soccer stadium will be one of the best in the country.
That’s right; in the entire country!
You need to make plans to be in Huntington on April 26th when we break ground for the new Indoor Practice Facility, Hall of Fame, Academic Support Center, and Sports Medicine Translational Research Center. It will certainly be a landmark event for our athletic program and one Herd fans have been anxiously waiting for a long time.
However, the question I am most often asked is, where do we currently stand in reaching our $20 million Vision Campaign fundraising goal?
I am pleased to announce that, thanks to an anonymous $5 million gift from a Marshall alum, we have now surpassed the $15 million mark in gifts and pledges to the campaign! This generous contribution not only draws us closer to meeting our goal but also epitomizes the determination of our Marshall family to provide the very best resources to our student-athletes and coaches.
Looking at what some of our most loyal and giving leaders have done for the campaign thus far, I am humbled by their generosity. When the Vision Campaign began in 2011 we received the Cline Family gift of $5 million which was matched by the Bucks for Brains program. We will be able to use these funds to staff and support the state-of-the-art Sports Medicine Translational Research Center for years to come. Due to the nature of this gift it is not included in our current $15 million total.
Co-chairs Chad Pennington and Mike D’Antoni have not only made substantial gifts but they have also helped us develop relationships with more of the Marshall Faithful to help us gain momentum at this crucial point in the campaign. Chad and Mike’s participation is invaluable to this venture and so is yours. For those who have already made a commitment to the Vision Campaign I want to say, “Thank you. “ While it may be easily said, I sincerely appreciate your willingness to be a part of this critical project.
Now, what can you do to help us to achieve this dream of reaching $20 million?
If you have not yet joined us, I hope you will consider being a part in making history in Marshall Athletics. Currently we have only 327 contributors to the Vision Campaign and we need ALL of our 3,039 members of the Big Green to join us in an effort to be successful. With the reseating plans for football, basketball and parking in place for the 2014-15 athletic seasons, now is the time to make any gift possible to the Vision Campaign that will only enhance your donor position for the future.
