HUNTINGTON, W.Va.-The Marshall Board of Governors approved the contract for construction of the University’s Indoor Athletic Facility at a regularly scheduled meeting on Thursday.

The contract, which was awarded to J&H Erectors out of Portsmouth, Ohio for $16,350,000, will help the athletic department construct the building, which will house a 120-yard turf field, a 300-meter track and the buildout of the shell of a new Hall of Fame, a state-of-the-art student-athlete academic center and a Sports Medicine Translational Research Center. The athletic department is currently closing in on its goal of $20 million in private funds to finish these three additions. Currently, $15 million has been raised toward this goal.

There is also $585,000 of additional improvements to the construction of the Indoor Athletic Facility that can be added, which Marshall Athletics plans to fund through further Vision Campaign contributions.

An additional $10 million is being raised through an athletic event ticket surcharge to complete funding for the $30 million project, which includes the $8 million Veterans Memorial Soccer Complex that is currently under construction.

Construction on the Indoor Athletic Facility is set to begin within the next 30-60 days.
