Five Stops Coming Up On Big Green Coaches Tour

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - The Big Green Coaches Tour kicks into high gear next week with five successive days of Thundering Herd events starting with the Great American Thunderfest, Sunday, June 7, where the Cincinnati Reds take on the Chicago Cubs.

This is followed on Monday, June 8, with the Big Green golf scramble and dinner at the Legendary Run Golf Course in Cincinnati.

The tour continues with its first Jackson County stop on Tuesday with a dinner in Ripley, a golf and dinner visit to Logan on Wednesday, June 10, and the annual Putnam County supper at the Sleepy Hollow Country Club on Thursday, June 11.

The festivities in Cincinnati on Sunday begin with a pre-game reception in the Great American Ballpark Fan Zone where Marshall University President Dr. Stephen Kopp will be joined by former MU gridder Chris Crocker, other MU celebrities and representatives of the Reds.

Crocker, currently a safety with the Bengals, will throw out the first pitch just before the Reds and Cubs take the field at 1:10 p.m.

The Alumni Club of Cincinnati are providing special packages that include tickets to the Reds game, a commemorative "And This One Belongs to the Herd" t-shirts, half-priced tickets to the Reds Hall of Fame and shuttle bus service to and from the Great American Ballpark and the Holiday Inn Eastgate.

The Thunder Tones (men's vocal ensemble from Huntington) will sing "Take Me Out to the Ball Game during the 7th Inning Stretch and a post game reception with Marty Brennaman (voice of the Reds) at the Holiday Inn is also scheduled.

The golf tournament on Monday has a noon shotgun start followed by a reception at 5:30 p.m. and a barbeque ribs dinner at 6:30 p.m. Marshall Coaches Donnie Jones (men's basketball) and John Shannon (football offensive coordinator) will join Herd cheerleaders, Marco and Big Green leaders for golf and dinner.

On Tuesday in Ripley, the Herd coaches will speak to a 6:30 p.m. dinner crowd at the Old City Building at 113 South Church St. Cost is $15 per person and reservations are encouraged by calling Nick Miller at 304-532-0972.

The Logan event, presented by the Logan Medical Center, begins with a golf scramble at noon on June 10 at the Logan Country Club, followed by a dinner a6 6:30 p.m. Herd head coaches Jones, Mark Snyder (men's football) and Royce Chadwick (women's basketball) will speak at the dinner in which is being held in honor of the late Ralph May, Herd Hall of Famer in wrestling and football.

Cost for the event is $100 for both golf and dinner and $50 for dinner only. Walker Machinery is sponsoring this event for the host Logan Area Marshall Athletic Club chapter of the Big Green. For reservations call Steve Chapman at 304-752-1166.

The annual Putnam County Herd Information dinner begins at 6 p.m. at Sleepy Hollow. Cost is just $15 per person and reservations can be made by calling Jim Ferguson at 304-752-1166.
