Athletic website's numbers go up

HUNTINGTON, W.Va.-HerdZone.com, the official website of Marshall Athletics, saw a 19 percent increase in its traffic count for the 2011-12 school year as compared to the previous 12 months.
The website pulled in 823,464 unique visitors from July 1, 2011 to June 30, 2012, up from 695,457 during the previous year. A unique visitor is defined as someone with a unique IP address who enters or reenters a site each month. A visitor who returns during that month is only counted once.
The 2011-12 school year featured May's addition of Jack Bogaczyk, the Herd Insider's new Editor, as a regular contributor in his "Word on the Herd" section. This came on the heels of an increased usage of Facebook (Marshall University Athletics), Twitter (@Herd_Zone) and sport-specific video highlights by Marshall Athletics, all designed to draw significant numbers to the site.
HerdZone had more than 100,000 unique visitors twice--September (116,056) and December (132,174)--during the year, with the latter figure representing a 206 percent increase over December 2010 (43,151).
In addition to Bogaczyk's work, the day-to-day editorial content on the site is managed by Assistant AD for Media Relations Jason Corriher, Associate Director Steven Schoon and Graduate Assistants Daniel Manget, Ty Osborne, David Pifer and Matt Weber.
