David Steele is in his 16th year with Marshall Athletics, serving as Associate Athletics Director, with primary responsibilities of overall administration of financial affairs within the Thundering Herds 16-sport athletic program and oversees a $22 million dollar annual budget.
Steele, raised in Texas came to Marshall in 1995 after serving in the Rice Athletic Department for 11 years from 1984-1995, as ticket manager, business manager, and Assistant AD for Business.
A product of Austin's Westlake High School, Steele received his B.A. in Managerial Studies and Political Science from Rice University in 1982, where he was a three-year letter winner on the Rice golf team. Steele went on to earn a Master's degree in Sports Administration from Ohio University in 1984. From there he served an internship with the Houston Astros before joining the Rice Athletic department.
At Marshall, Steele oversees business operations, budgeting, financial reporting, human resources, video, equipment services and concessions. He assists the Director of Athletics with football scheduling and assists with football team travel. He is the treasurer for the Big Green Scholarship Foundation and a member of the Foundation's Executive Committee.
Steele, a member of CABMA (College Athletic Business Management Association), a 500+ member organization devoted to business operations of intercollegiate athletic programs was named CABMA's Manager of the Year in 2010.
Steele served as Interim Director of Athletics in the summer of 2010 prior to the appointment of Mike Hamrick as Director of Athletics.
Steele and wife Diana, have one daughter, Madison.
