JIMMY AND RALPH MAY M CLUB WALL OF LEGACY

The M Club dedicated the Wall of Legacy in the name of Jimmy and Ralph May during the 2005 football season. Ralph was a quarterback and wrestler at Marshall in the early 1960s. Ralph returned to his alma mater in 1996 as a volunteer to help Bob Pruett "in any way he could." One of the many important tasks he took on was the creation of the M Club.

Jimmy May, Ralph's younger brother, was a wrestler and football manager who experienced a diving accident near completion of his studies at Marshall in 1965. He lived his remaining life to the fullest, but as a parapelegic. His heroism motivated and gave hope to many athletes and non-athletes who benefited from his inspiring spirit and example. Jimmy, knew of the dedication of the Wall, but, unfortunately, died a month before the formal naming took place.

The M Club took special pride in dedicating the Wall of Legacy in the names of these outstanding men who have given so much to Marshall athletes and athletics. They represent the personal qualities and lives that we believe participation in college athletics and the opportunity for a college education can help develop in young men and women.

The Wall of Legacy is located adjacent to the Pavilion. The Wall contains bricks imprinted with the names, sports and years of participation of former participants in any Marshall athletic programs. The first ones affixed to the Wall contain the names of the players and coaches who died in the 1970 plane crash. If you do not have a brick on the Wall of Legacy, consider adding it to those of your teammates and athletes of other years and sports with whom you share the special bond of having been a Marshall athlete. Frequently, bricks are purchased by spouses, friends or former teammates in the name of former players, coaches, managers, trainers and cheerleaders as a gift to a living former athlete or a memorial for a deceased athlete.

The bricks can be purchased for a $100 donation to the M Club. Application forms are sent out with membership applications, sometimes with the Newsletter and are always available by request from the M Club Office or at the Pavilion prior to football games.
