Big Green Donors of the Week: Todd and Shawn Rigney
Jan. 10, 2012
This week's Big Green Donors of the Week are Todd and Shawn Rigney. Todd and Shawn share a long-time love and commitment to the Herd as they both earned their bachelor degrees from Marshall, with Shawn also holding a Masters degree from MU. They have continually shown their dedication to Marshall as active Big Green members, season ticket holders, and avid fans travelling to as many away games as possible. Recently, Todd and Shawn, along with their oldest son Bryson, made the trek to St. Petersburg, FL where they helped cheer the Herd on to victory in the Beef 'O' Brady's Bowl.
Currently the Rigney's reside in Hurricane, WV where they are passing on their passion for the Herd to their three sons: Bryson (7), Brady (4), and the newcomer to the team Bryant (8 months).
Todd - Sitting in about 90 degree heat in Clemson, SC, and watching Chad Pennington lead the Herd on what felt like a 160 yard drive (due to phantom penalties) to beat Clemson and begin our Perfect Season.
Shawn - Willy Merrick's kick to win the 1992 National Championship.
Todd - Keith Baxter Sr. My dad and I used to go to practices at Fairfield Stadium in the 80's and Keith would always throw and catch a couple footballs with me on his way off the field to the locker room. Now my boys get to see his son play, which is pretty cool.
Shawn - Chad Pennington. He had an awesome playing career and now is a great ambassador for our University.
Why do you give to the Big Green:
Todd - I was fortunate my family was able to pay for my education. Knowing that some athletes aren't as fortunate, I feel that it's important to do my small part in helping someone get an education from such a great University.
Shawn - I want to give back to the school that's given me so many fond memories. It feels wonderful to be able to contribute to help Marshall become an even greater institution.
