Big Green Donor of the Week - Mark Campbell
Jan. 31, 2011
Were you there? That's the question people will be asking following the Herd's big win over Memphis last Saturday at the Henderson Center. The atmosphere was electric, including 6,000 Kelly green glow sticks and the most fan interaction we've seen in the Cam in years. And where did all of this come from?
Mark Campbell and our great fans on HerdNation! Mark spearheaded the movement to get our fans to purchase and distribute the glow sticks and coordinated their efforts with the MU athletic department.
The Big Green has benefited from Mark's passion for the Herd, as he and his sidekick, Brian Massey, have recruited dozens of new members and promoted many of our events over the past few years. He is a member of the Big Green Board of Trustees and is seen at all home basketball games "helping" the officials on the tough calls. Thanks, Mark, for all you do for the Herd!
College: Marshall University RBA
Why I donate?
My wife Ann and I donate because the University needs us; in particular the student athletes. It is important to us both that we support Marshall as a whole. There's no doubt we love the Herd and like most fans we truly enjoy being part of something but also recognize that when we donate time and money to the Big Green, we're helping a kid go to college.
My favorite Marshall player?
There are so many that it is difficult to choose just one. This basketball season, I'm loving Nigel Spikes, though.
Jonathan Goddard will always hold a special place for me. What happened with him and the weeks that followed gave me a different perspective on things. His loss was tragic but he didn't go without making an important contribution to me as a person.
My favorite Marshall moment?
My brother Carlos and I shared an awesome brotherly bonding moment at Clemson in 1999. It was a crazy awesome win and it made even better to share it with my best friend.
That said I have to mention last Saturday night. Wow! The Marshall Fan Plan &
Operation Memphis Glowout Saturday night has to rank up there. A lot of us worked
hard all last week to make it happen and a ton of folks stepped up monetarily and to hand out glowsticks. Going in to the game I was nervous but Herd fans came together. The glow sticks rocked!
