Big Green Donor of the Week: Dan Wells|
Feb. 7, 2011
Dan Wells, former standout football and track athlete for the Herd, is this week's Big Green Donor of the Week. Dan played every down for Coach Frank Ellwood's Thundering Herd on the offensive line in his three years on the varsity (1978-80), and threw the shot put and discus for the track team. His athleticism allowed him to excell in both sports while earning his degree in Business and Marketing.
Dan and his wife Cathy live in Huntington and Dan is a part of Marshall Athletics today as both a member of the M Club and Big Green. We are fortunate to have former athletes like Dan that contribute to the future of our current student-athletes and coaches.
College: Marshall 1980, BA in Business/ Marketing
Favorite Marshall Athlete: Former Defensive Tackle Wayne Sparks (1974-76) from West Portsmouth, OH. "You couldn't block him in practice or games. He was tenacious and had a great work ethic."
Favorite Marshall Moment: "Our (football team) victory in 1976 over Miami (OH). It was Marshall's first win over a ranked Division I opponent."
Why do you give to the Big Green?: "When I was a player at Marshall, somebody paid my scholarship through the Big Green and now it's my turn."
