How does a guy from Indiana who never went to school at Marshall become of
our biggest fans and advocate for both athletes and students with special needs?
The answer comes in the person of this week's Big Green Donor of the Week,
Gregg Happe. This is his story:
"In 1970 I was living in Indiana and your typical sports fan. I recall being at a party
with the TV running in the background, news of the crash was on the air. Five
years later I moved to West Virginia and met my wife Lynda, a Marshall alum.
However, I didn't really grasp the close knit family nature of this school until my
son enrolled in 1992. My heart will be forever linked to Marshall ROTC, the HELP
program, and of course, the Big Green."
Gregg and Lynda have truly been special in their support of our student athletes
at Marshall. Through Lynda's experiences as an alum, and their sons' as well,
Gregg has become another member of the Herd family and we are very grateful
for their loyalty.
College: Franklin College 1973
Favorite Herd Moment: "A pervasive winning atmosphere, knowing we would
win whenever we teed it up in the Joan, pulling off a Miracle in Mobile, or rising
to the occasion at The Cam against UCF Saturday night!"
Why We Give to the Big Green: "Witnessing the growth of our youth between
18 and 22 years old is remarkable. Knowing our funds help support the academic
side of the maturation process is very rewarding. Plus, I like getting the Herd
Insider for free!"
