Sept. 12, 2011
As we all cheered on the Herd to a thrilling win over Southern Miss this past weekend, we also took time to remember a very special day in our nation's history; September 11, 2001. The brave men and women serving our country through their military service come from all across our country, including this week's Big Green Donor of the Week..
Master Sergeant Mike Hanlon of Charleston has been an avid fan of the Herd since his days at Marshall from 1992-96. He was a member of Alpha Sigma Phi and met his wife Charin (Class of '96) while a student at MU. Mike has since been a member of the Alumni Association Board of Directors, Quarterback Club of Charleston and Big Green Board of Trustees.
Mike and Charin have two daughters, Kaylee (6) and Grace (4) who are proud of their dad for his service in the WV Army National Guard, serving as the Enlisted Personnel Manager. We, too, would like to thank Mike and all other service men and women for their sacrifices to their families and friends for our country!
Favorite Marshall Athlete
Chad Pennington-He is such a great advocate for our wonderful University. His actions both on and off the field are
tremendous.
Favorite Marshall Moment
2001 GMAC Bowl win against ECU. We were vacationing
in Mexico at the time of the game and had found a little place where we
could watch the game. We had one of the best times ever during that game and
enjoyed it to the very end.
Why do you give to the Big Green?
We give back because we want our program to be successful and because Marshall has given so much to us. This
is of course where Charin and I first met in 1993, but Marshall is very important to us in so many ways and we
continue to stay connected as much as we can. Our girls are growing up with
the Marshall traditions that we love so dear and now cannot wait for our
trips to Huntington throughout the year.
