Big Green Donors of the Week: Sharon and David Whipkey|
Oct. 25, 2010
This week's Herd Insider Donors of the Week are a storybook couple that met at Marshall and have been a part of the Herd family for over 40 years.
David Whipkey grew up in Huntington and attended Marshall Lab School and went on to attend Marshall University along with his high school sweetheart, Sharon Haselip. Dave was a member of the MAC championship golf team in 1962 and a member of the SAE Fraternity, while Sharon was Freshman Queen and a Marshall cheerleader. Aside from being a spirit leader for the Herd, "Dutchess," as her friends called her, was an outstanding golfer in her own right (no word on who got strokes out on the links).
Recently, Dave and Sharon established a $50,000 endowed scholarship for the Men's Golf team and former MU teammate, Coach Joe Feaganes. Their generosity will assist the team by providing the funds necessary to benefit a Marshall golfer with a scholarship. Anyone interested in contributing to the fund can call the Big Green office at 304-696-4661.
Thanks to Dave and Sharon for their love and loyalty for the Herd!
