HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - Marshall University Director of Athletics Bob Marcum announced Thursday that Duane Nutt has been promoted to head cheerleading coach. He replaces Donna Dunn who has retired after 20 years of service.
"This is my dream job and this is something I have always worked toward," Nutt said. "My goal as coach is for every one of our cheerleaders to have the same great experience at Marshall that I had when I was here."
Nutt, a Parkersburg native and Marshall Alum, has served as Marshall's assistant cheer coach since 2005 and has a great deal of experience at both the collegiate and high school levels. He was a member of the Marshall cheerleading squad from 1986 to 1990 and following his graduation he served as the junior varsity squad coach at MU for one year. From 1991 to 1996 he was the head cheer coach at Parkersburg High School and he served as an assistant at Marshall from 1996 to 2000. He returned to Parkersburg High for four years as an assistant until returning to Marshall as an assistant coach in 2005.
Nutt graduated from Marshall in 1990 with a B.A. in Business Administration and is a northern West Virginia sales representative for Varsity Spirit.
