Marshall Concludes Tommy Evans Invitational
Whitney and Amos lead way for Herd

AKRON, Ohio – The Marshall men’s and women’s cross country teams opened the 2013 season at the 45th running of the Tommy Evans Invitational at Firestone Metro Park on Thursday evening.
Competing in the invitational hosted by the University of Akron for the second straight year, the Thundering Herd joined a five team field that included Akron, Kent State, Malone and Youngstown State.
Senior Jack Whitney (Ripley, Ohio) was the highest-placing Marshall male runner in the 6400 meter as he placed 12th in a time of 20:48.00 among the field of 42 runners. Five other Thundering Herd runners placed at the invite, ranging from 24th place to 37th.
On the women’s side in the 5k, senior transfer Debbie Amos (Parkersburg, W.Va.) led Marshall with a time of 19:05.00 to place 16th in a field of 45 runners. 10 Herd runners brought up the tail end of the women’s pack with the next highest Marshall finish having ben 23rd by senior Julia Galloway (Huntington, W.Va.) in a time of 19:36.00.
Marshall’s next meet is schedule for Saturday, Sept. 14, at the Commodore Classic. The event will be hosted by Vanderbilt in Nashville, Tenn.
