Cross Country Completes Commodore Classic|

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Competing in the Commodore Classic for the third-straight season, the Marshall men’s and women’s cross country teams recorded respective finishes of 17th and 12th on Saturday morning at Percy Warner Park.
A total of 19 NCAA Division I women’s programs competed in the event; while the number of men’s Division I teams totaled 20. The field included Southeastern Conference members Mississippi State, Ole Miss and meet host Vanderbilt. The Commodores places first overall in the men’s run and Lipscomb finished atop the women’s team results.
In the men’s 8k run, senior Jack Whitney (Ripley, W.Va.) finished 48th overall in a time of 26:07.45 to lead the Marshall men’s runners for the second consecutive event.
A 100 place finish from senior Julia Galloway (Huntington, W.Va.) was the top Thundering Herd finish in the 5k women’s race. Galloway finished in a time of 19:46.24, anchoring a 12th place finish for the Marshall women.
The Herd will have two weeks off until their next meet on Saturday, Sept. 28. Marshall will run at the Charlotte Invitational and get a close-up look at Conference USA newcomer Charlotte.
