Men’s Results | Women’s Results
DENTON, Texas – Running in the first meet of the postseason, the Marshall men’s and women’s cross country teams came up short against a strong field at the Conference USA Championship on Saturday at Eagle Point Cross Country Course.
The men finished 10th in the 8K, while the women recorded a 12th place finish in the 5K run. Hosted by C-USA newcomer North Texas, Tulsa swept both events to win the men’s and women’s team titles. Each race consisted of 13 teams.
“We had some good performances and some not so good performances,” coach Jeff Small said. “Our entire team learned that the new additions to the conference has made it a much better league in cross country.”
Once again, senior Jack Whitney (Ripley, W.Va.) was the top finisher for the Marshall men, a feat he has accomplished in all five meets this season for the Thundering Herd. Whitney finished 34th overall and posted a time of 26:40.49. For the women, freshman Andrea Porter (Pt. Pleasant, W.Va.) led the Herd in the 5K with a time of 19:36.36.
“Andrea Porter and Lauren Bartoldson ran well today,” said Small. “Jack Whitney had another strong performance while Tyler Salmons and Tony Hayes really bolstered our men’s attack.”
The Herd will continue running in the postseason with the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regionals set for Nov. 15, in Bethlehem, Pa.
