HUNTINGTON, W.Va.--The Marshall cross country coaching staff led by 20th year head coach Jeff Small announced the team's 2017 schedule on Monday. The team competes in four regular season meets, as well as the Conference USA Championships and the Mid-Atlantic Regionals.

"We are extremely excited for this upcoming cross country season for both the men's and women's teams," assistant coach Caleb Bowen said. "This past track season was really good for our distance squads as we broke nine school records in distance events. I believe this success on the track will fuel the fire for summer training and they will be ready to go come August."

The 2017 slate has a similar look to the 2016 schedule. The team begins on Friday, September 1 at the Morehead State Eagle Opener in Morehead, Kentucky.

Two weeks later, the team heads south for the Commodore Classic on Saturday, September 16. The meet is hosted by Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee.

On Friday, September 29, the team competes in the Joe Piane Notre Dame Invitational in South Bend, Indiana.

The team concludes its regular season on Friday, October 13 at the VertCross Invitational hosted by High Point University in Kernersville, North Carolina.

The Conference USA Championships are hosted by Southern Miss in 2017, and will take place in Jackson, Mississippi. The conference meet is on Saturday, October 28.

The Mid-Atlantic Regionals, one of nine regional meets used as qualifying for the NCAA Cross Country Championships, takes place on Friday, November 10. The meet is hosted by Lehigh University in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania.

The Herd will hope to send qualifying runners to the 2017 NCAA Cross Country Championships on Saturday, November 18 in Louisville, Kentucky.

"This schedule we have for this year gives us a chance to run with the best teams in the country and will prepare us to compete well at the conference and regional meets," Bowen said. "There isn't a meet on our schedule where we won't have good competition and that is going to make us a better and stronger team."
