@HerdTFXC Announces 2017-18 Signing Class

Head Coach Jeff Small announced the 2017-18 signing class on Friday.

HUNTINGTON, W.Va.—Marshall cross country/track and field head coach Jeff Small announced Friday the addition of 17 athletes to the program.

The signees include four men who will run cross country in the fall. 13 women join the program, one of which will run cross country in the fall and will compete in track and field in the spring. The 17 signees come from seven states, and 11 of the men and women are from West Virginia.

“We’re very excited for this class,” Small said. “I think we have a bunch of great athletes coming in in many different areas for our program. I think with our freshman class from last year combined with this year’s class, the future is really bright for our program.”

“We have high school state record holders and athletes who in high school ran times that would be school records for us,” Small said. “We are just very excited.”

A look at the 2017-18 cross country/track and field signees (listed in alphabetical order):

Men’s Cross Country:

Josh Endres – (St. Albans High School; St. Albans, West Virginia) –Was a two-time qualifier in 2014 and 2016 in the AAA division State Cross Country Meet…holds a personal best of 16:02 in a cross country 5K…in track was a two time state meet qualifier in the 3200 meter run, finishing 10th in 2016 and fifth in 2017, earning All-State honors…won the 2017 Marshall University High School Invitational 3200 meter run.

Austin Jordan – (Cabell Midland High School; Ona, West Virginia) –Was a three-time qualifier in the AAA division State Cross Country Meet…was a two-time all-state runner, when he finished seventh in 2015 and fourth in 2016 at the State Meet…was a three-time all-region and all-MSAC runner…was a two-time state meet qualifier in track, finishing ninth in the 3200 meter run in 2016…holds a personal record of 16:16 in a cross country 5K.


 

 

Chad Longanacre – (Transfer from West Virginia Wesleyan--Ripley High School; Ripley, West Virginia) –Graduated from Ripley High School in 2013…he is the reigning Mountain East Conference Steeplechase Champion and helped lead his team to three MEC Championships in track…in cross country he narrowly missed All-MEC by placing 11th in 2015 and 13th in 2016…his cross country 8K personal best is 27:18 and his 10K personal best is 34:13.

Coy Smith – (Cabell Midland High School; Ona, West Virginia) – Was a three-time qualifier in the AAA division State Cross Country Meet…in two of his three state meets, he was a second-team All-State selection along with being a three-time all-region and all-MSAC member…was a two-time state meet qualifier in track…holds a personal record of 16:01 in the 5K.

Women’s Cross Country/Track and Field:

Alyssa Long – (Cabell Midland High School; Ona, West Virginia –Was a four-time qualifier in the AAA division State Track Meet in the 400 and 800 meter runs…in 2016 earned All-State honors by placing third in the 400m…was a two-time Region 4 and MSAC Champion in the 400m…holds a personal best of 58.77 in the 400m and 2:20.09 in the 800m.

Women’s Track and Field:

Brandy Elysee – (South Dade High School; Homestead, Florida) –Will compete in sprints for the Herd…competed in the Florida High School State meet as part of the school’s 4x400 meter relay…was ranked fourth in the Florida AAAA division in the 400 meter dash with a time of 55.11…was ranked sixth in the 200 meter dash with a time of 24.17…has a personal record of 11.88 in the 100 meter dash.

Kiauna Facemyer – (Capital High School; Charleston, West Virginia) –Will compete in throws for the Herd…was a 2017 West Virginia AAA division All-State performer and was the Region 3 champion in the shot put…comes to Marshall with a personal best of 40 feet, 9 inches in the shot put.

HollyAnn Goble-Swann –(Graduate Transfer from Auburn University of Montgomery, Alabama) –Will compete in distance for indoor and outdoor track for the Herd…accepted into the Marshall University Masters of Science in Forensic Science Degree Program…is the Auburn University of Montgomery school record holder in the 4K, 5K, 6K, and 10K…was a three-time NAIA Scholar Athlete, two-time all-conference runner, and was a NAIA National Championships qualifier in 2015…holds a personal best of 17:21 in the 5K.

Aislyn Hayman – (Point Pleasant High School; Point Pleasant, West Virginia) –Will compete in throws for the Herd…was the 2017 West Virginia AA division State Champion in both the shot put and discus throw…went undefeated and finished her senior season ranked second in West Virginia state history in the discus throw to former Marshall All-American Erin Compton with a personal best of 148 feet, 8 inches…pair that with a top-10 all-time state meet finish with a personal best of 42 feet, 1 inch in the shot put.

Kylie Miles – (Cabell Midland High School; Ona, West Virginia) –Will compete in throws for the Herd…2017 West Virginia AAA division State and Conference Champion in the shot put during her senior year with a throw of 41 feet, 2 inches…also a Gazette Relays Champion, Conference Champion, and All-State performer in the discus throw with a personal best of 115 feet, 11 inches.

Josie Raines – (Roane County High School; Spencer, West Virginia) –Will compete in sprints and jumps for the Herd…scored in the 100 meter, 200m, and 400m at the 2017 West Virginia High School State Meet…was a three time state high school champion, including setting the school record in the long jump with a record of 18 feet, 3 inches.

Taylor Robinson – (Louisa County High School; Mineral, Virginia) –Will compete in sprints and hurdles for the Herd…was the 2016 Virginia Indoor 55 meter hurdles State Champion…was runner-up in the 100 meter hurdles 2017 state meet…holds personal records of 8.82 in the 60 meter hurdles and 14.42 in the 100 meter hurdles…finished third at the New Balance Indoor Nationals in the 60 meter hurdles.

Addisyn Rowe – (David Crockett High School; Jonesborough, Tennessee) –Will compete in jumps for the Herd…plans to also play volleyball for Marshall…went undefeated during her senior year of high school with a lifetime best jump of 5 feet, 8 inches…was an All-State performer in the high jump her sophomore and junior year while taking home a state championship her senior year with a jump of 5 feet, 6 inches.

Sydnei Taylor – (Spring Mills High School; Martinsburg, West Virginia) –Will compete in sprints and jumps for the Herd…was the 2016 State Champion in the 400 meter dash…was the 2016 and 2017 State Runner-Up in the long jump…finished fourth in the state in the 200 and 400 meter dash in 2017…holds a personal record of 57.11 in the 400 meter dash.

Isabella Tremble – (Johns Creek High School; Johns Creek, Georgia) –Will compete in hurdles and jumps for the Herd…was the region champion in multiple events…finished fourth in the Georgia State Championships in the 300 meter hurdles…was a state finalist in the triple jump…holds a personal best of 45.06 in the 300 meter hurdles and 37 feet, 2 inches in the triple jump.

Taylor Wilkerson – (Bryan Station High School; Lexington, Kentucky) –Will compete in sprints for the Herd…was the 2017 Kentucky State Indoor Champion in the 60 meter dash…was part of her school’s back-to-back State Championship teams…also ran on her school’s 4x100 and 4x200 meter relay squads that captured multiple state titles…part of her team that holds the state record in the 4x100 meter relay…holds a personal record of 24.62 in the 200 meter dash.

Lauren Zaglifa – (Washington High School; Charles Town, West Virginia) –Will compete in the pole vault for the Herd…was the 2017 West Virginia AAA division State Champion in the pole vault with a state meet record clearance of 12 feet, 1 inch…also claimed the all-time state record in the pole vault at the Region 2 meet with a personal best clearance of 12 feet, 4 inches.
