HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – After having finished fifth and eighth at the 2012 Conference USA Championships, respectively, the Marshall men’s and women’s cross country squads will look to improve in 2013. The first chance of the fall for the Thundering Herd to prove its growth will come on Thursday, Sept. 5 at the Tommy Evans Invitational.
“Our pre-season training has gone well so far,” said Marshall Head Coach Jeff Small. “We are looking forward to competing at Akron against some good competition to see where we are at and what we will need to improve on.”
Held at Firestone Metro Park, the 45th running of the Tommy Evans Invitational will begin with the women’s race at 5:30 p.m., followed by the men’s race at 6:15 p.m. The day’s events will conclude with the awards ceremony which is set for 7:15 p.m.
Hosted by the University of Akron, the Herd will compete in the invite for the second straight year. With five cross country programs having competed in the 2012 event, the Marshall men finished fourth, while the women finished fifth.
Looking to improve with help from senior leadership, the men have just one senior in 2013, while the women have four runners who enter their final season at Marshall.
