GREENVILLE, S.C. - Sophomore standout Matt Schiffbauer took first place at the Furman Invitational in leading the Marshall University men's cross country team to a first place team finish.
Schiffbaure finished the 8K course in a time of 26:32. This is his first individual first-place finish of the year. He was second two weeks ago at the Greensboro Invitational.
Helping the sophomore earn first place as a team was Eric Frohnapfel and David Caldwell who both finished in the top 10. Frohnapfel was eighth overall with a time of 27:09, while Caldwell was two spots behind in tenth, crossing the line in a time of 27:33.
Kathleen Clark and Allison Cox paced the Herd to a fifth place team finish on the women's side. Clark was 22nd overall in a time of 20:21 in the 5K course, while Cox finished just two seconds behind in 23rd.
Next week the MU cross country team travels to Evansville, Ind., to participate in the Evansville Invitational.
