Senior Caleb Bowen (Hurricane, W.Va.) led the Thundering Herd once again as his time of 25:07 in the men’s 8k helped him place third overall in the race, while as a team the men finished second overall. On the women’s side, Marshall ranked third as a team, with sophomore Andrea Porter (Point Pleasant, W.Va.) having paced the Herd in a time of 19:00. As an individual, Porter finished seventh in the field.
Quotes from coach Jeff Small
On the performance of the men’s team
“The guys ran their best race of the year so far. We avenged losses against Radford at Louisville and Mercer at Asheville earlier this season. Caleb Bowen ran another incredible race with another lifetime best while Jordan Brown-Stobbe had by far his best race of the season. Tyler Salmons keeps getting closer to our top guys which he needs to continue to do.”
On the performance of the women’s team
“Our girls were solid today but I think they can run even better in the future. They have been practicing well, but just need to put it all together on race day. Our combined average time today of 19:30 was our best of the year by 10 seconds. Andrea Porter ran well today, but we need to move our other runners closer to Andrea.”
With the regular season complete after this weekend’s meet, the Herd will prepare for the Conference USA Championships which will be held in Denton, Texas, on Saturday, Nov. 1.
