THE WOODLANDS, Texas - A ninth place finish from sophomore Matt Schiffbauer, along with classmate Chris Cole finishing in 23rd position, paced the Marshall University men's cross country team as they captured fourth place at the Conference USA Cross Country Championships Saturday morning at the Bear Branch Sports Fields in Woodlands, Texas.

Schiffbauer earned second-team all-conference honors with his top ten finish. This is the second consecutive year the sophomore has been awarded that accolade. The Morgantown native crossed the line in a time of 25:08. He was the first American-born runner to finish the race.

Cole clocked in at 26:15 on the 8K course. The trio of Josh Feather, Eric Frohnapfel and David Caldwell rounded out the top five for the Thundering Herd. They placed 29th, 30th, and 32nd respectively.

Freshman Leslie Thomas was the top finisher for the Herd women's team. She completed the 5K course with a time of 20:58. The Herd placed 12th as a team.

The UTEP Miners captured the C-USA title for the men, while the SMU Mustangs took the crown on the women's side.
