Marshall Cross Country to Run in C-USA Championships Saturday

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – After finishing in the top three in its final regular-season meet of the season, Marshall’s cross country teams will compete in the Conference USA Championships in Denton, Texas, on Saturday. The women’s 5K race will start at 10 a.m. ET, with the men’s 8K event beginning shortly after at 11 a.m. ET. The awards ceremony for the honorees of the events will take place at noon.
Marshall last competed in the Cross Country Only National Invitational on Oct. 17 in Mechanicsville, Va. Senior Caleb Bowen (Hurricane, W.Va.) led the Thundering Herd with a time of 25:07 in the men’s 8K that helped him place third overall in the race, while as a team the men finished second overall. On the women’s side, Marshall ranked third, with sophomore Andrea Porter (Point Pleasant, W.Va.) leading the Herd in a time of 19:00. As an individual, Porter finished seventh in the field.
The Herd will face stiff competition. Leading the men’s side is two-time defending champion Anthony Rotich of UTEP. The highest-rated team in the women’s event is Middle Tennessee, which ranks eighth in its region.

Caleb Bowen, Jack Whitney and Will Shaffer should lead the men’s team while Andrea Porter, Tori Dent and Madeline Armstrong should lead the women’s team.”
