Herd Readies for Regional Meet
Cross Country Looks to Extend Season with Solid Showing
Nov. 7, 2012
UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -- The members of the Marshall University cross country team are lacing-up their shoes for what could be the final meet of the 2012 season when they travel to Penn State University for Friday’s NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regionals.
After each member of the women’s team ran to personal bests and the squad’s best-ever finish at the most recent Conference USA Championships meet, the expectations are high for the Thundering Herd as it takes to the trails at Penn State’s Blue Golf Course. With the men having also run hard at the conference meet en route to a top-five finish, Friday’s race could give both Marshall teams an opportunity to advance to the NCAA Championships as a team for the first time in program history.
Last year, Matt Schiffbauer did what no other Herd cross country athlete had done in over 30 years by qualifying from the Mid-Atlantic Regionals to the national championships as an individual. This time around, that pressure will fall upon the men’s leading runner, David Caldwell, and the women’s leader, Celia Leonard.
The women’s 6k race is scheduled to start at noon ET, while the men will run their 10k race at 1:15 p.m. Course maps, entry lists, box draws, directions, and other information pertaining to the regional meet can be found by clicking the link below. Admission to the event is free.
