CHARLESTON, S.C. -- Senior Mike Mason threw seven innings of shutout baseball and struck out seven to help propel the Marshall baseball team to a 4-0 win over Charleston Southern in game one of a double-header at Buccaneer Ballpark Saturday afternoon.

Gray Stafford, Sergio Leon, and Adrian Farris all had RBI hits, but Mason shined on the mound, scattering five hits and walking just one to pick up his second victory of the season.  The senior had only a one run cushion for the majority of his second start.  Stafford’s solo home run in the second put the Thundering Herd on top 1-0, and the team would hold that same lead until Leon added an RBI single in the seventh.

Joe Church pitched two innings of relief to close the game out.

Isaac Ballou went 2-for-4 for the game, while seven others recorded hits.

With the four-game series now tied at a game apiece, game two of the Saturday double-header will begin at 2:20 p.m.  Follow the chat or live stats for updates on the action.
