EAST BANK, W.Va. - Adam Dobies (Jr., Pittsburgh, Pa.) fired Marshall's first complete-game shutout in nearly three years, and Nick Damas (Jr., Willow Springs, Ill.) hit a walk-off single with the bases loaded and one out in the seventh inning to lead the Marshall baseball team (4-2) to a 1-0 win and doubleheader sweep over Buffalo (1-4) Saturday at Epling Field.
Dobies becomes the first Marshall pitcher to record a complete-game shutout since Grant Harper tossed a shutout April 25, 2004, at Bowling Green.
Dobies worked a career-best seven innings and gave up just two hits and a walk. He also struck out a career-high nine batters and did not allow a baserunner past second base. Dobies outdueled Buffalo's Mike Radanovic, who also was impressive, giving up just six hits and five walks while striking out two in 6 1/3 innings.
Jeff Rowley (Jr., Buffalo, N.Y.) coaxed a walk to lead off the seventh. Aaron Jamieson (Sr., Lindsay, Ontario) pinch ran and moved to second on a Blake Sanders (Fr., Ponte Verda Beach, Fla.) sacrifice bunt. Thad Ledford (Sr., Yukon, Okla.) was intentionally walked, and Matt Helm (Jr., Downingtown, Pa.) followed with a single to left to load the bases.
With the infield pulled in, Damas ripped a single through the left side of the infield to plate Jamieson and push Marshall to the doubleheader sweep, and its second walk-off win in the doubleheader.
Marshall and Buffalo will meet in another doubleheader Sunday. First pitch is 11 a.m.
