Marshall Falls to Ohio State|
March 26, 2014
COLUMBUS, Ohio--Marshall traveled to Columbus, Ohio to face Ohio State in a midweek showdown Wednesday evening. The Herd fell to the Buckeyes 4-0.
Ohio State started by plating two runs in the 2nd inning off of Herd starter Alex Thackston (Proctorville, Ohio).
Junior Clint Wilson (Cedar Park, Texas) entered the game in relief, and worked three innings, tossing 50 pitches. Wilson ran into trouble in the 5th, giving up a leadoff double to OSU shortstop Nick Sergakis, who came around to score to increase the Buckeyes lead to 3-0.
Marshall created excitement in the 5th inning, when third baseman John Beary (Apopka, Fla.) led off the inning with a hit-by-pitch, and then took second on a Buckeye throwing error. A wild pitch sent Beary to third.
Junior Andrew Dundon (Lincoln Park, N.J.) was then walked and took second on a stolen base to put two in scoring position for the Herd, but both were left stranded to end the inning.
The Buckeyes added a fourth run when Herd reliever Ryan Hopkins (Sardinia, Ohio) allowed a leadoff triple to OSU catcher Aaron Gretz, who scored on a sacrifice fly two batters later.
Marshall returns to action Friday, March 28, when the Herd hosts C-USA foe Tulane at Appalachian Power Park.
