Marshall Falls to UCF 11-0 in Deciding Finale
10-run rule put into effect after seven innings

ORLANDO, Fla. -- In game three of the Conference USA series at Jay Bergman Field, Marshall’s baseball team lost an 11-0 decision to UCF.
Marshall (14-24, 4-8 C-USA) lost the series despite taking the opener in extra innings on Friday night.
UCF (22-19, 8-7 C-USA) put a run on the board in the second but broke the game open in the third, fourth, and fifth with 10 runs on eight hits and three errors in three frames.
The Thundering Herd cut down six Knights on the base path, with Matt Kirkwood taking part in each. The senior catcher threw out two base runners attempting to steal and put out two others attempting to score.
Starting pitcher Michael Taylor (3-4) suffered the loss, lasting only 1.2 innings. The freshman gave up just two hits and one (earned) run but walked four.
UCF starter Brian Adkins (2-6) was the winner. Adkins pitched a seven-inning complete-game three-hitter, striking out four with no walks.
Marshall will travel to Beckley, W.Va., Wednesday for a 3 p.m. meeting with Ohio before heading to Charleston, W.Va., for a three-game series against Tulane over the weekend.
