Tulane Takes Series By Beating Baseball in 15-12 Slugfest|

CHARLESTON, W.Va. – Victor Gomez and James Lavinskas each rocketed three hits each, but Tulane scored seven times in the eighth to defeat the Marshall University baseball team 15-12 at Appalachian Power Park on Sunday afternoon. Marshall falls to 19-29 overall and 6-15 in Conference USA play.
Six Thundering Herd players registered multiple hits, led by Victor Gomez who went 3-for-4 with four RBI, including his sixth homer of the season. The round tripper was the 52nd of his career, moving him into sixth place in C-USA history and he now ranks 12th in career RBI, passing Kevin Youkilis.
James Lavinskas added three singles, while Isaac Ballou, Kenny Socorro, Rhett Stafford and Gray Stafford each contributed two hits apiece. R.Stafford launched his ninth of the year, a solo blast, while Ballou legged out his team-leading seventh triple in the loss.
Marshall had built up an 11-8 lead through seven innings after scoring five times in the fifth and four in the sixth. In the top of the eighth, Tulane (30-21, 10-11 C-USA) batted around, scoring seven runs off just three hits and held for the final 15-12 score.
Green Wave reliever Drew Zizinia (3-1) picked up the victory, tossing 2.1 innings with two strikeouts. Nick Pepitone picked up his 14th save by pitching a perfect ninth.
Ian Kadish (1-4) was tagged with the loss.
