No. 27 Coastal Carolina Sneaks Past Herd Baseball, 4-2
CONWAY, S.C. - Marshall starter Mike Mason held to the 27th-ranked Coastal Carolina offense to three runs over the first six innings, but the Thundering Herd bats managed just two hits, falling 4-2 on Saturday afternoon at Watson Stadium.

Marshall (1-1) leads the all-time series with NC A&T 6-3.  In 2000, the Thundering Herd took a three-game series sweep over the Aggies only to split a four-game series the following year.

A&T (2-1) is led by Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference preseason all-conference selection Luke Tendler.  Tendler is a repeat honoree of the preseason award and a member of last year's MEAC all-conference second team and all-tournament team.  The junior second baseman batted .305 with a team-most 55 runs batted in through the 2012 season.

Coastal Carolina (2-1), winner of the Big South Conference title in each of the last six seasons, posted a 42-19 record in 2012 and received an invitation to the NCAA Regional in Columbia.  The Chanticleers are the third winningest team in the nation since 1999 (Florida, Rice) and boast the Big South's preseason pitcher of the year in senior Aaron Burke (10-5, 1.58 in 2012).  The right-handed reliever saved seven games in 35 appearances last season.  Burke's latest outing saw him strike out two and walk two in a single inning of relief against No. 1 North Carolina.

Marshall trails Coastal 5-2 in the all-time series.  In the most recent meeting (2011), No. 27 Coastal Carolina handed the Herd a 4-2 loss in Conway, S.C.

Marshall's official baseball Twitter account, @MU_Baseball, will offer regular in-game updates.
