CONWAY, S.C. - The Marshall University baseball team heads to Conway, S.C., to compete in the Bash at the Beach tournament this weekend host by Coastal Carolina University.

The Thundering Herd squares off against George Mason Friday, Feb. 29 at 12:00 p.m., and returns to action later that day against host Coastal Carolina at 4:00 p.m. Marshall will collide with West Virginia for the first time in ten years Saturday at 12:00 p.m., and rounds out tournament play against Western Carolina. That game is slated for a 10:30 a.m. start Sunday and will be the fourth meeting between the two teams on the season.

Marshall enters Friday's action with a 1-2 overall record, while George Mason comes in at 0-3 on the season. The last time the two teams met was in 2004, with the Patriots taking an 11-4 decision.

Junior right-hander Steve Blevins is the likely starter for the Herd and will square off against red-shirt senior right-hander Dan Jaycox. Blevins struck out five Western Carolina batters in his first outing of the season. The junior pitched 4.2 innings in his Marshall debut.

In the second game of the day, Marshall junior lefty Andrew Blain will take the hill against junior right-hander Bobby Gagg. Blain picked up the opening day win last Friday against the Catamounts with a 5.0 inning five-strikeout performance. The southpaw allowed just two runs on five hits in the 14-9 victory.

Marshall has found early success at the plate having already registered 37 hits including seven doubles, two triples, eight homers and has a team batting average of .325.

The Herd has received a pair of homers from senior catcher Tommy Johnson, senior left fielder Jeff Rowley, and junior center fielder Nate Lape. Junior third baseman Brandon Casamassima and freshman second baseman Kenny Socorro each went deep over the weekend.

Junior shortstop Adam Yeager also made his debut in the green and white, and went 4-for-6 with a double in Friday's win.

George Mason junior outfielder Ryan Uphouse leads the offensive attack for the Patriots with a .545 batting average. He has hit three doubles and two home runs on the season in addition to boasting a 1.364 slugging percentage. Junior infielder/outfielder Scott Krieger leads the team with three homers.

Jaycox struck out three batters and gave up six runs on eight hits in 5.0 innings of work in his first start of the season for the Patriots. Herd sophomore righty Dan Straily will get the nod in Saturday's match-up with West Virginia. Straily pitched 4.2 innings and struck out five Catamounts and earned a no-decision in his first appearance on the mound for Marshall. The Mountaineers' pitcher for Saturday is yet to be determined.

Junior lefty Brian Mooney will be the final Marshall starter for the weekend. Mooney pitched 1.2 innings of shutout relief against Western Carolina.
