COLUMBUS, Ohio—The Marshall baseball team heads to Columbus, Ohio for a Wednesday wrangle with Ohio State at 5:00 pm at Bill Davis Stadium.

Marshall is 2-3 against Ohio State under coach Jeff Waggoner, including a 17-1 win against the Buckeyes when they were nationally ranked at No. 17.  

This will be the first time Herd pitching coach Josh Newman returns to his alma mater since his arrival at Marshall.

Marshall is coming off a 0-3 weekend, being swept by nationally ranked opponent FIU (then No. 30, now No. 29).

Junior Eric Escobedo (Troup, Ga.) knocked in two doubles on the weekend, and went 3-7 in two games. The outfielder is currently ranked fourth in the nation in sacrifice flies with five.

Sophomore designated hitter Chase Vogelbach (Ft. Myers, Fla.) continued his hot streak going 7-10 on the weekend.

Marshall is expected to throw southpaw Alex Thackston (Proctorville, Ohio) who has made eight appearances out of the bullpen this season.

SCOUTING THE BUCKEYES

Ohio State is currently 15-7, with a 2-1 conference record. The Buckeyes opened Big 10 conference play with a  2-1 series win over Michigan State over the weekend.

Freshman outfielder Ronnie Dawson leads the offense for Ohio State, batting .356 in 20 games this season. Sophomore infielder Troy Kuhn adds to the threat, posting a .287 average with seven doubles and four homers on the season.


 

 

Ohio State is expected to throw lefty Zach Farmer, who posts a 4.22 ERA with 10 strikeouts in five starts.
