OXFORD, Ohio - Miami starting pitcher Keith Weiser held the Thundering Herd baseball team to three runs on six hits over eight innings to lead the RedHawks to a 14-3 win Friday afternoon at McKie Field.

Weiser, last season's MAC Freshman Pitcher of the Year, struck out six and walked only two in the outing for his third win of the season.

The Herd (7-15, 2-2 MAC) scored all of its runs, which were unearned, in the eighth inning. Miami (14-10, 3-1 MAC) scored runs in six of its last seven innings.

Miami opened up the scoring in the second, with four runs crossing the plate. In that inning, Miami notched five singles, one reached on an error and another batter got hit in the inning. In the fifth, the RedHawks got on the board and kept it going, scoring three times in the fifth, twice in the sixth and seventh and three more times in the eighth.

In the fifth, Geoff Orr recorded an RBI double and later scored on an error by catcher Nick Wolle (Coatesville, PA). Ryne Robinson also had an RBI single in the inning. Herd starter Chris Koutsavlis (Pittsburgh, PA) exited the game after the fifth inning, giving up seven runs, five earned, on nine hits.

Koutsavlis was replaced by Mike Marchyshyn (Markham, Ont.) who did not fare much better as two runs scored in both the sixth and seventh innings to make it an 11-0 game in favor of Miami.

Held to only three hits prior to the eighth inning, Marshall finally got on the board. With one out, Josh McConnell (Phenix City, AL) singled to reach base. It marked his first hit of the season. Adam Ptacek (Assaria, KS) walked and was followed by Nick Wolle, who reached on an error to load the bases. Aaron Levinson (Seattle, WA) grounded out to bring in Marshall's first run of the game.

After Levinson, Adam Frederick (Franklin, PA) notched his first hit of the game, an RBI single to make it an 11-2 game. Matt Helm (Downingtown, PA) notched his first career single and RBI on the next at-bat to knock in the third run of the inning.

The RedHawks got the three runs right back in the bottom of the inning as Courtney Campbell had an RBI single while Ryne Robinson brought in two runs with his double to complete the scoring for the game, making it 14-3. In the ninth, Sam Shorts came into the game for the RedHawks and completed the game.

The Miami pitchers held the Thundering Herd to three runs, none of which were earned, on eight hits. The Marshall pitchers struggled, allowing 14 runs on 15 hits. Only nine of those runs were earned, though, as the Marshall defense made six errors in the game. Koutsavlis took the loss, dropping to 2-2.

Leading the Marshall offense was Aaron Jamieson, who was the only batter with two hits. For the RedHawks, Ryne Robinson and Geoff Orr each had three hits and three RBI's. Jason Brown knocked in two runs for Miami.

Marshall has now lost three in a row, but junior Chris Cummings (Huntington, WV) will look to get the ship righted for the Herd as he will take the mound on Saturday. The game is scheduled for a 1 p.m. start.
