Baseball Travels to Birmingham, Ala. To Play UAB

HUNTINGTON, W. Va.—Marshall baseball will travel to Birmingham, Ala. as it prepares to take on Conference USA foe UAB in its second to last road trip of the season.

The Herd will begin play Friday, April 25 at 6:30 pm (CT) at Regions Field, followed by a 2:00 pm (CT) Saturday showdown and the 1:00 pm (CT) Sunday finale.

Marshall is coming off a 10-3 loss to WVU Wednesday, but prior to that had won five straight as the  Herd posts a 18-21 record (8-9 C-USA).

Junior TJ Diffenderfer (Mount Juliet, Tenn.) has gone 8-for-17 in his last six games, boasting a .471 average with a triple and homerun and collecting eight RBI and three runs. The first baseman is hitting .270 on the season.

Junior Eric Escobedo (Troup, Ga.) has also sported a hot bat in recent Marshall contests, raking in seven RBI and three runs on a .333 average in the last six games.

Diffenderfer and Escobedo lead the team with 20 RBI a piece.

Sophomore Caleb Ross (Barboursville, W. Va.) will look to break into the record books this weekend, as the southpaw needs just two appearances (currently sits at 26 on the season) to tie for fifth  All-Time in the Marshall record books for Single Season Pitching Appearances at 28. 


UAB has spent multiple weeks a top the C-USA standings in 2014 and enters the weekend with a 24-16 record (10-8 C-USA).

UAB suffered its first sweeping of the season after falling to fellow conference foe Rice in all three games.



Sophomore catcher Mitch Williams leads the Blazers bats, posting a .312 average with 29 hits and one home run on the season.

Redshirt sophomore Griffin Gum also presents a threat with a .303 average, and junior utility man Jeff Schalk leads the team with four homeruns and 22 RBI.

UAB posts a team ERA of 2.93.
