HUNTINGTON, W.Va. -- Marshall left-handed pitcher Mike Mason has been selected by the Colorado Rockies in the 24th round of the 2012 Major League Baseball First Year Player Draft. 

Mason was selected in the 23rd round of the 2011 MLB draft by the Texas Rangers but opted to remain at Marshall for his senior season. 

Mason is the second member of the 2012 Thundering Herd squad to be drafted, following Joe Church who was taken in the 17th round by San Diego. 

Mason finished his Marshall career with 217 career strikeouts, ranking fourth in Marshall history in that category.

In 2012, Mason threw seven quality starts and posted a 4-6 record with a 4.15 earned run average.
