White Team Holds 2-1 Advantage After First World Series Weekend

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - After being edged in the first game 4-3, the White Team bounced back to win the next two contests, taking a 2-1 lead in the Marshall University baseball Green and White World Series.  The Thundering Herd returns to the diamond on Thurs., Oct. 21, at the Kennedy Center.  First pitch is slated for 3 p.m.

Game 1:  Green, 4-3      SV:  Ian Kadish
Game 2:  White, 12-6
Game 3:  White, 8-7       SV:  Arik Sikula

White Team:  2-1
During the first three games of the series, a trio of returners and one newcomer spearheaded the offense that averaged eight runs per game.  Ben Jurevicius topped the squad with five hits in 13 at bats (.384 batting average) along with five RBI.  The senior connected for a pair of triples and scored a trio of runs.



Senior Victor Gomez, a 2010 First Team All-Conference USA selection, clubbed four hits, including a double, homer while knocking in four runs.  The quick Miami, Fla., native also scored three times and stole three bases.

Other strong offensive contributions came from senior Kenny Socorro and freshman Louie Helmburg.  Socorro went 4-for-8 at the dish with three RBI, while Helmburg was 4-for-9 at the catcher position, smacking three doubles and plating three runs.

Green Team:  1-2
After winning a nip-and-tuck affair in game one, the Green Team momentum came to a halt against its opponent.  Junior Alfredo Brito posted a solid weekend, roping a homer and a double and collecting four RBI.  Nathan Gomez, Thor Meeks and Rhett Stafford all launched homers during the weekend for the Green Team.
