HUNTINGTON, W.Va. -- Marshall baseball has announced the dates for its winter camps. All of the clinics will be held in the Indoor Athletic Facility at the Chris Cline Complex.

The first will be a hitting camp offered on Saturday, Dec. 12 from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The clinic will focus on the art of hitting through drill work and evaluation of each participant. In addition to general mechanics, areas of focus will be situational offense, bunting, and the mental aspect of hitting.

The pitching/defense camp will be held on Sunday, Dec. 13 from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Pitchers will be instructed on all aspects of pitching and catchers will be put through numerous drills working on blocking, receiving, and throwing.

Youth Academy is a two-day event on Dec. 28-29 from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. for grades K-8.  This event will be held to help campers learn about the Herd program and develop confidence in their baseball ability. The camp will be broken into sessions consisting of skill specific instruction, including hitting, base running, fielding, bunting and strength training.

The Elite Prospect camp, which will be held on Saturday Jan. 16, will feature a morning session at 9:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and an afternoon session at 1 p.m. to 4:30 p.m., as the first portion will be for pitchers and catchers and the second part is for positional players. The pitching portion will be led by former Major League pitcher and current Herd coach Josh Newman and will cover mechanical drills, weight training, bullpen and long-toss routines, and arm care. The afternoon session of the prospect camp will be devoted to teach baseball fundamentals exclusively. A great deal of instruction and individual attention will be given to each camper to assist him in developing sound technique in hitting, bunting, fielding, throwing, and base-running.

This camp is designed to allow current high school freshmen through junior college sophomores (junior college freshmen must be academic qualifiers) to have the chance to be evaluated by the Marshall baseball coaching staff. The individual will be able to learn the skills needed to compete at the next level while receiving instruction from the staff.

The hitting, pitching/defense and youth academy camps will be held 9 a.m. -- noon. The elite prospect clinic is from 9 a.m. - noon for pitchers and catchers, and then 1 p.m. - 4 p.m. for position players.

Camp fee is $100, except the elite prospect camp, which will be $125. For both the hitting and pitching/defense camp, the cost is $175.
