Marshall to Host Baseball Showcase|
Dec. 21, 2011
HUNTINGTON, W.VA. - Head coach Jeff Waggoner and his coaching staff will be putting on the 2012 Winter High School Showcase on January 15 from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
The Marshall Thundering Herd Showcase offers high school players the opportunity to be instructed and evaluated from one of the nation's top collegiate coaching staffs.
The tentative showcase itinerary includes evaluated workouts, an informational meeting about the academic requirements for student-athletes with the team's academic advisor, a discussion on weight training and conditioning with a member of the strength and conditioning staff, and also discussions on the mental aspect of the game.
This showcase will focus on the five tools of a baseball player: speed, arm strength, hitting, hitting for power, and defensive skills. Each player is coached and evaluated by the Marshall University Coaching Staff with a personal evaluation being given to each player following the showcase.
Marshall baseball will also be putting on a Hitting League this coming January and February. The Marshall University baseball team will begin its winter hitting league with instruction from assistant coaches Andrew Blain and Tyler Gatrell, as well as current Thundering Herd players, beginning Sunday January 22nd, and continuing on January 29th, February 5th and 12th, and 19th. The focus of this league is to provide instruction in an organized and enjoyable atmosphere through five sessions.
The art of hitting will be addressed through drill work and evaluation of each participant's swing. In addition to general mechanics, areas of emphasis will include situational off ense, bunting, and the mental aspect of hitting.
