Defeats WVU Tech 87-65
HUNTINGTON, W.Va. -- In its third game in five days to open up the regular season, the Marshall Thundering Herd men's basketball team (3-0) continued its winning ways in an 87-65 win over WVU Tech (5-1) at the Cam Henderson Center.
The Herd took control with 15 minutes left in the first half, going on a 14-0 run to make the score 24-8. Marshall finished the first half up by a score of 48-27. Ryan Taylor led the way with 13 points. Marshall shot 45 percent from the floor and hit 47 percent of its three pointers (7-15).
Marshall finished the game with a 43 percent performance from beyond the arc (13-30). The team also shot 46 percent from the field and 80 percent from the free throw line. The Herd won the battle for rebounds, with 47 to the Golden Bears' 29. Marshall's bench outscored WVU Tech's 23-10.
Taylor tied a career high with 25 points and contributed eight rebounds, an assist and a block. Cheikh Sane had nine points and gobbled up 16 rebounds to go with two blocks and three steals. DeVince Boykins also equaled a career high with nine points. JP Kambola set a career high with nine total points to go with his nine rebounds. Jaren Marino and Jauries Thomas led the Golden Bears with 15 points each.
The win makes the Thundering Herd 3-0 as it will now have a short break. Marshall will hit the road for the first time this season with a trip to No. 7 ranked Louisville. The game will be Friday, Nov. 21 at 9 p.m. ET and will be televised on ESPNU.
