Marshall Basketball Travels to Akron With First Round MAC Tournament Home Game Hanging in the Balance
2/28/2002
Game Notes
Marshall University's men's basketball team must pick up a win at Akron Saturday if it has any hope of hosting a first round Mid-American Conference Tournament home game on Monday. The game, set for 4:00 p.m., will be televised by Fox Sports Ohio, Pittsburgh and Empire (NY).
Marshall (13-14, 7-10 MAC) kept its first round hopes alive with an 82-57 win over Central Michigan Wednesday. A Marshall win over Akron, coupled with a Northern Illinois loss at Western Michigan on Saturday would give Marshall the eighth seed in the tournament, and a first round home game with the Huskies on Monday night in Huntington.
Akron (9-19, 5-12 in the MAC) has lost six of its last seven and is locked in to a road game in the first round. The Zips, however, would like to get some momentum going into the tournament with a win over the Herd in their home finale.
