Markel Humphrey Named C-USA Co-Player of the Week

DALLAS - Marshall University senior Markel Humphrey has been named the Conference USA men's basketball Co-Player of the Week for the week of March 2. This marks the first time in his career to receive the weekly honor.

Humphrey, a senior from Atlanta, Ga., averaged a double-double with 21 ppg and 10 rpg, leading Marshall to a 2-0 record with a road win at East Carolina and a home win over UCF. He scored 24 points on 8-of-14 shooting and was a perfect 6-for-6 at the free throw line against ECU, adding eight rebounds and two steals. Humphrey followed that with 18 points and 12 rebounds in a 67-62 win over UCF on Saturday. He became the first player in Marshall basketball history to be ranked in the Top 20 in career scoring, rebounding and assists.

Taylor recorded one of the best performances in C-USA history Wednesday and averaged 36.5 points for the week. He totaled 45 points on 14-of-29 shooting in 34 minutes against Rice. The scoring output was a UCF Division I record and ranked second on the C-USA single-game register. Taylor also hit 12-of-13 attempts at the free-throw line, grabbed seven rebounds, had three steals and two blocks. He concluded the week by scoring 28 points for the short-handed Knights at Marshall. During the week, he shot 45.3 percent overall and went 18-of-19 (94.7 percent) at the charity stripe. This is his fifth Player of the Week honor this season and seventh of his career.

 

 

ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
Aubrey Coleman, Houston
Junior, G, Houston, Texas

Coleman helped lead the Cougars to a 1-1 record last week and their sixth win in the last eight games. In Wednesday's game at Tulsa, he scored 12 points with a game-high five steals. Coleman followed that up by recorded his team-leading 10th double-double Saturday at Rice with 12 points and 12 rebounds. He added four points during a 15-2 run in the final 5:22 to help lead the Cougars to the 56-51 victory - their first road win at Rice since 1996. This is Coleman's fifth Rookie of the Week honor.
