IRVING, Texas - Marshall junior guard Jon Elmore (Charleston, W.Va.) and senior forward Ryan Taylor (Indianapolis) were honored Monday by the Conference USA men's basketball coaches and media in the league's postseason awards. Elmore was named first-team all-conference, while Taylor was named to the conference's third-team.
"This season, Jon and Ryan have been incredibly important to us," head coach Dan D'Antoni said. "Jon is the league's top scorer and leads the league in assists for a reason, while Ryan has been our leader the entire season and has impacted the program and team in so many ways. I'm proud of them and they deserve this honor."
Elmore and Taylor are the first Herd duo to be named on C-USA teams since DeAndre Kane and Damier Pitts in 2012. Elmore joins James Kelly (2015-16) as the program's only players to be on the first team, while this Taylor's second all-conference honor.
Elmore finished the regular season leading the league in points (20.3) and assists (6.1). His seven games of 10 assists or more also top the league. He finished fourth in free throw percentage (80.9 percent), 13th in steals (1.2 per game), seventh in made 3-pointers (71) and fifth in assist/turnover ratio (1.9).
He earned C-USA Player of the Week honors for the week of Dec. 12 and was named to the league's All-Academic Team last week. His 629 points this season are good for No. 11 in program history in a single season, while his assists are tied for No. 7 in school history.
Taylor finished the regular season with 12 double-doubles (No. 3 in the league) and his 39 career double-doubles leads the league. His 14.5 points are No. 14 in the league and his 8.7 rebounds are good for fifth. His 44 blocked shots are a team-high and are No. 4 in C-USA. Earlier this season, Taylor earned C-USA Player of the Week honors for the week of Jan. 9 and became the school and conference's first ever Oscar Robertson National Player of the Week.
The Thundering Herd (17-14, 10-8) will be the six seed in this week's Conference USA Tournament (Birmingham, Ala.) and will face off with 11th-seed Florida Atlantic (10-19, 6-12) Wednesday at 9 p.m. ET/8 p.m. CT in Legacy Arena at BJCC. The game can be viewed on Campus Insiders.
