BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Marshall men's basketball team (17-14, 10-8) has earned the six seed and will face 11th-seeded Florida Atlantic (10-19, 6-12) on Wednesday, March 8, in the first round of the Conference USA Men's Basketball Tournament (Birmingham, Ala.), the league announced. Tip is set for 9 p.m. ET/8 p.m. CT and the game will be broadcasted by Campus Insiders.

HAVE YOU HERD
On Saturday night at the Henderson Center, with Ryan Taylor's Marshall men's basketball team trailing visiting North Texas by 1 point in the twilight of his final regular season game on his home court, Taylor again received his orders. He did not defy them. He won the game for the Herd. Taylor scored a game-high 29 points, 17 of which came in the second half of Marshall's 106-104 win against North Texas that locked up the No. 6 seed for the Herd in next week's Conference USA tournament. Taylor scored 14 of Marshall's final 17 points, including the final 7 points after the Herd fell behind by 5, 104-99, with 86 seconds left.
SCOUTING THE OWLS
Florida Atlantic boasts one of the best turnover margins in the conference and in the nation. It has a +1.4 turnover margin, which is good for No. 3. The Owls are very active with blocked shots, as they are the eighth-best in C-USA. Florida Atlantic was predicted to finish 12th in the preseason poll, which was conducted by coaches in C-USA
WHO TO KNOW
The Owls are led by Ronald Delph, who is averaging 6.7 rebounds per game (No. 10 in C-USA) and who is also one of the most accurate shooters in the conference. He has a 59.0 FG percentage, which is good for No. 3 in the conference. Delph also averages 1.5 blocked shots per contest (No. 7 in the league).
Nick Rutherford runs the point for Florida Atlantic and averages 4.5 assists per game. Rutherford is also known for his ball security, has he has a 1.9 assist/turnover ratio. Rutherford also does a good job of creating havoc for the other team, as he has 1.3 steals per game.
Marshall will meet Florida Atlantic for the seventh contest between the two sides. The Herd owns a 4-2 advantage over the Owls. It is a relatively new series, with both sides meeting for the first time during the 2013-14 season. The Herd is 1-0 in neutral site games.
Senior forward Ryan Taylor's (Indianapolis) 31st career double-double from a career-high 31 points and a season-high 13 rebounds helped give the Marshall men's basketball team an 89-72 victory over the Florida Atlantic Owls on Jan. 2, 2017.
In the process of getting his double-double, Taylor became the fourth player in Herd history to have 1,400 career points and 800 career rebounds. Redshirt freshman Christian Thieneman (Louisville, Ky.) added a career-high 10 points and seven rebounds, while senior guard Stevie Browning (Logan, W.Va.) had 14 points, seven rebounds and five assists.

If Marshall wins, it will advance to play third-seeded Old Dominion on Thursday, March 9, at 9 p.m. ET/8 p.m. CT. Old Dominion and Marshall split its series 1-1 this season.
