April 5, 2017
IRVING, Texas – Marshall sophomore Jacob Kilgore (Huntington, W.Va.) is one of 14 Conference USA student-athletes to earn the league’s Winter Spirit of Service Award, commissioner Judy MacLeod announced Wednesday.
The C-USA Spirit of Service Award recognizes the community service efforts of the league’s student-athletes, based upon significant public service, good academic standing and participation in their elected sport. The Spirit of Service Award will be presented three times throughout the season, with today’s honorees representing Conference USA’s winter sports: men's and women's basketball, men’s and women's swimming and diving, and men's and women's indoor track and field.
Kilgore maintains an impressive 3.88 GPA as a biological sciences/pre-med major. Besides volunteer coaching for his father’s youth basketball league in his hometown of Huntington, he has totaled nearly 50 hours of community service this year. Kilgore volunteered at a drug addiction health clinic and rehab center, as well as worked to throw a block party at a local elementary. He also represented Marshall during the C-USA Basketball Championship community service event at the Children’s Hospital of Alabama.
