HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – With the work of new assistant coach Scott Rigot and his strength in recruiting international players, the Marshall men’s basketball team has added Aleksa Nikolic to its 2014 recruiting class, Herd coach Dan D’Antoni announced Thursday.
The Thundering Herd will look for the 6-foot-5 point guard to use his length and versatility when he suits up in kelly green. After having experienced a three-inch growth spurt in just over a year, Nikolic’s 6-foot-10 wingspan put him on the radar of many programs.
A native of Pancevo, Serbia, Nikolic has honed his skills to become a talented guard who has the physical tools and basketball knowledge that can be an advantage for the Herd.
Nikolic racked up 20.3 points, 6.4 rebounds and 8.0 assists during his most recent season on his Serbian junior club team.
Having played the point guard position for many years, Nikolic has become a creative offensive weapon who can create passing lanes and make plays in the open court. The European addition is expected to be a good fit for coach D’Antoni’s system as he can shoot, handle and pass the ball at a high level.
