Marshall Men's Basketball Releases 2017-18 Non-Conference Slate
The Thundering Herd will play eight true home games
HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – The Marshall men’s basketball team finalized its 2017-18 non-conference schedule, head coach Dan D’Antoni announced Thursday. This year’s non-league slate will be highlighted by last year’s Elite Eight finalist, Xavier, along with Illinois, William & Mary and others.
“I’m really happy with how this schedule came together,” D’Antoni said. “We have 17 home games this season, so we should have a fantastic atmosphere for all of those. Overall, I think it’s a very competitive schedule for both non-conference and conference play. In the end, I hope we make it to the postseason and find success there.”
The Thundering Herd’s non-conference slate includes four teams that reached last year’s NCAA Tournament or NIT, while five of the Herd’s 13 non-conference are former conference foes from the Mid-American Conference and Southern Conference. In all, eight of Marshall’s 13 non-league games will be played under the roof of the Cam Henderson Center.
“This year’s non-conference schedule has a great balance of old rivals, regional games and perennial postseason teams,” Associate Director of Athletics and Chief of Staff Jeff O’Malley said. “With the amount of home games and the launch of HerdVision, this will be an excellent opportunity for even more of our fans to experience Marshall basketball.”
The Herd opens the 2017-18 schedule on Nov. 10 when it begins a two-game homestand against the UT-Martin Skyhawks and on Nov. 13 when it welcomes the Southern Jaguars.
Following the homestand, the Herd will go on the road to take on the Morehead State Eagles on Nov. 16 and Illinois Fighting Illini on Nov. 19.
Marshall will then return home for another two-game homestand beginning on Nov. 22 to welcome the N.C. Central Eagles and the Concord University Mountain Lions on Nov. 26.
The Herd will head to Williamsburg, Va., and take on the William & Mary Tribe on Nov. 29.
Marshall will begin the month of December at home when it hosts the Akron Zips on Dec. 2 and the Chattanooga Mocs on Dec. 5.
Following the home contests, the Herd will drive to Toledo, Ohio to play the Toledo Rockets on Dec. 9.
Marshall will then return home on Dec. 16 and welcome the Ohio Bobcats.
The Herd will head to the road for the last time of the year 2017 when it goes to Cincinnati to play the perennial Big East challenger, the Xavier Musketeers.
Marshall will then close out the non-conference schedule at home on Dec. 22 when it welcomes the Eastern Kentucky Colonels.
The Herd will play two exhibition games prior to the regular season, when it hosts West Virginia Tech on Oct. 29 and West Virginia Wesleyan on Nov. 5.
