HUNTINGTON, W.Va.--Marshall University's Thundering Herd Madness is set for 7 p.m. on Saturday Oct. 16, in the Cam Henderson Center.
Fans will be introduced to first year head coach Tom Herrion and his squad. Conference USA Co-Sixth Man of the Year Dago Pena leads seven returning letterwinners as nine newcomers join the Herd. The night will get underway with a series of introductions which will be followed by a two-ball competition.
The two-ball competition will be comprised of several teams of players from the Marshall men's basketball team which will shoot from various locations on the floor with one minute on the clock, each shot location will be worth a variety of points, the team with the most points in one minute will be crowned the winner. The two-ball competition will be followed by a slam dunk contest. A 20-minute scrimmage will wrap up the night.
Upon the completion of the approximately 75-minute event, fans will have the opportunity to get autographs from the Marshall players and coaches. Souvenir roster cards will be distributed at the event that includes on one side for autographs. There will be several prize giveaways throughout the event.
"I heard this has always been a very positive event for our booster club and the basketball program," Herrion said. "This year we plan to keep it very simple and focus on basketball, I really want the fans to get to know our team and see how exciting we can be."
Herd Madness serves as a fundraiser with proceeds going to the Marshall Tip-Off club (a division of the Big Green Scholarship Foundation). All tickets are $5 and seating is general admission throughout the entire arena. Marshall Students will be admitted free of charge by presenting a valid MU student ID at the student entrance located on the upper concourse level on the south side of the building.
Tickets can be purchased by calling 800-THE-HERD or by going online to www.HerdZone.com. You must order at least four tickets to purchase online. Doors will open at 6 p.m. on the day of the event.
Renewal Deadline Extended The Marshall University Athletic Ticket Office announced Monday that the basketball season ticket renewal deadline has been extended. The deadline which passed on Friday Oct. 1, has been extended to Wednesday October 6th at 5:00p.m.
Tickets can be renewed three different ways, visit www.HerdZone.com, call 800-THE-HERD, or mail in your hard copy renewal form to the ticket office at P.O.Box 1360 Huntington, WV 25715. All tickets that are not renewed at by this date will become available for purchase. Individuals who requested additional season tickets or seat location changes will be contacted later this week and the beginning of next week.
